Anorexia isn’t skipping a meal.
Bulimia isn’t making yourself puke every once in a while.
Self injury isn’t taking  a razor to your skin after he breaks up with you (again).
Drug addiction isn’t trying it once.
Insomnia isn’t not sleeping for two nights.
Schizophrenia isn’t seeing things when your high.
MPD isn’t acting like someone your not because you’re upset.
Depression isn’t feeling low for a week.
Anxiety isn’t being nervous when you have a test.

Anorexia is marked by a decrease in eating habits, distorted body image or distorted thoughts about food that cause significant distress or impairment in daily functioning. There is no criteria for how many meals you have to skip or how much you have to restrict.

Bulimia is exactly the same but is also marked by forcing oneself to vomit in an attempt to influence one’s body. There is no criteria for how frequently you have to do it.

Self-injury is any act that intentionally causes psychological or physical harm to yourself. There is no criteria for what influences you to do it.

Drug addiction is marked by a dependence on ANY drug or combination of drugs. There is no criteria for how many times you have to actually do the drug.

Insomnia is marked by a difficulty falling or staying asleep causing distress or impairment in functioning.

Schizophrenia can be triggered or worsened by hallucinogenic drugs.

MPD is no longer a diagnosed disorder and is now referred to as Dissociative Identity Disorder. Both can be triggered by emotional distress.

Depression is characterized by feeling abnormally low for one-to-two weeks at a time, along with a disinterest in daily activities and lethargy, causing distress or impairment in functioning. There are four different “kinds” of depressive disorders.

Anxiety does not have a trigger criteria. Anything can make you anxious.

This post is fucking bullshit. Stop telling people that there’s a right and wrong way to be mentally ill. This is the shit that keeps people from seeking professional help. There’s no such thing as “not mentally ill enough” to talk to someone.
